  • Qualified and experienced Basic / Intermediate Riggers

Diesel Mechanic

Maintenance of Mobile Cranes and support vehicles:

CBCH your local crane hire business is seeking a qualified Diesel Mechanic to maintain our fleet of Mobile Cranes and support vehicles. This position will include working out of the CBCH Yard / Workshop in Whyalla Norrie, SA.

The position available is Full-Time but has roster options available, previous experience within the crane industry would be beneficial but is not an essential when applying.

Basic / Intermediate Riggers

Essential skills and experience required:

  • Experience in Operating various types cranes, including All-Terrain, Truck Mounted and Franna’s
  • Proven Experience within the Crane Industry
  • Experience working in remote locations and shutdowns
  • A “Can-Do” attitude and motivated work ethic that ensures our clients expectations are continuously met/exceeded
  • Experience with rigging lifts and load shifting equipment
  • An ability to effectively analyse and solve issues in a timely and proficient manner
  • Proven and demonstrated commitment to working in a safety-first environment
  • Team Player with excellent communication
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Independent but supports to and adheres to “chain of command”

Key responsibilities:

  • Display the appropriate behaviours that support the CBCH Cranes’ Values at all times:

  • Participate in daily site toolbox and safety meetings, other meetings or pre-starts as required by our clients
  • Operate a variety of equipment daily according to licensing, qualifications, schedule and instructions from Site Supervisor, choosing and setting up the right crane, lift or hoist to complete each task safely and efficiently
  • Inspect machines and equipment daily, perform routine maintenance procedures and minor repairs as required and initiate additional repair requests from mechanics when necessary
  • Complete daily checklists and other forms ensuring all required information is submitted
  • Control cranes, lifts and other equipment using standard operating procedures to ensure effective lifting of materials and safety for all personnel on site
  • Follow CBCH Cranes and our Clients Procedures at all times and complete JSA and other associated paperwork prior to completing a lift
  • Maintain visual and radio contact with crane operators according to best practices and site safety regulations, and respond to questions and instructions clearly and quickly
  • Prepare loads for movement. Tilt, dip and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques
  • Choose, attach and use appropriate cables, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves, wires, straps and chains and inspect prior to use
  • Provide additional support to other crane operators and riggers as necessary, including working overtime to complete tasks, operating several types of equipment and training or monitoring other operators
  • Performing other tasks within competency and licence qualifications including Crane Operations when required
  • Report any hazards, near misses or incidents immediately to the Supervisor and Client as required
  • Ensure you are always “Fit For Work”
  • Continually check and ensure all required site-based inductions and accreditations are current, if not advise supervisor immediately
  • Ensure approved lift studies and not deviated from, if deviation required stop work and contact supervisor
  • Test rigging equipment to ensure safety and reliability and maintain portable lifting registers when applicable

Qualifications required:

  • Current applicable Crane Operator High Risk License (desirable)
  • DG, RB, RI or RA High Risk License
  • Current and Valid Driver’s License (HR) desirable
  • Nationally accredited White/Blue Construction Card
  • Current Working at Heights, Confined Spaces, EWP, LF tickets (desirable)
  • Other trade qualification (desirable)
  • Mechanical aptitude
